Assistant Manager - Shipping & Customs
To manage the import/export of goods on behalf of Al Tayer Motors divisions across the UAE; actively reduce the freight cost / transit time per shipment, be ATMs interface with Dubai Customs & Dubai Municipality, ensuring ATMs reputation is protected as a Key Account with Dubai Customs.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Participate and support Senior Logistics Manager, as and when required, in the development of the policies and procedures framework that will allow the logistics function to effectively meet its objectives and targets, in line with ATMs strategy and direction
- Manage the movement of products in and/or out of the country in accordance with organizational policy and procedure, and in compliance with relevant local, country and international law and process.
- Plan and implement import/export strategy and activities consistent with overall aims and requirements of the organization
- Regularly liaise with freight forwarders, C&F agents to determine best practices & market rates, negotiate with the forwarders on a periodic basis & obtain favourable rates and conditions, including approval for spot rates in case of bulk consignments and rates for new suppliers/destinations
- Develop and strengthen relationship with appropriate authorities (Customs, DCCI, Ministries, Municipalities or any other government entity related to our business) to ensure prompt and efficient implementation of customs or any other government entities.
- Ensure that Customs submissions are met within a timely manner so that no fines are incurred. Ensure that all relevant audit documents are available from a VAT and AEO perspective.
- Manage the implementation, compliance and ongoing evolution of the Dubai Govt B2G clearance system for ATM through a central clearance administration team
- Liaise with warehousing and transportation activities influenced by or reliant upon import/export activities and ensure timely preparation of documentation to meet the planned delivery schedules
- Actively promote cost consciousness amongst consignees using cost and timeline reporting for air / sea route decision making and monitor costs of freight charges for any shipment to ensure it is within the approved limits/ budgets
- Guide and motivate team members to enhance performance and produce quality work, and ensure that they work to their best potential and establish smooth working relations with internal & external teams to deliver service effectively
- Prepare performance evaluation and appraisal reports of direct reports to assess subordinates productivity and progress and identify training needs of team members to improve efficiency and ensure conformity with standard procedures and practices
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelors Degree (Operations Management or Business)
- Postgraduate training in relevant disciplines a further advantage or equivalent experience.
- 5-6 years of experience in Shipping & Customs Clearing
- Experience in VAT submission related to logistics
- Good knowledge in Freezone Regulations
- Experience in Freight Forwarding
- Well versed with Customs submissions process
- Good understanding of TRA / SIRA / ESMA
